Press Release – Winner of Christmas Light Competition

Local residents submitted their details this Christmas if their home was decked out in dazzling decorations to be in with a chance of winning goodies from some of our fantastic local shops in Shaftesbury and £100 to the winners chosen Charity.

Piers Brown, Mayor of Shaftesbury was well placed to be judge with 5 years of experience in the commercial world of Christmas Decorations. Piers was looking for originality, personality and festivity.

We are pleased to be able to announce that the winner was local family man, Wayne Adams, of Anstee Road Shaftesbury.

Did you see his fantastic display?

Wayne chose, local registered charity, Shaftesbury Abbey Primary School PTFA. This charity holds lots of events in the year for both sociable and fundraising purposes. Including a Christmas and Summer Fair, fashion shows, sponsored events, working parties in the school grounds and all sorts of fun! Some of their recent projects/purchases include; Let’s get cooking club, iPads, Chalk Valley History Festival trip for Yr 6, 12 Ukuleles.

Their major project continues to be helping provide IT equipment for the school and the development of the stomping ground.

Congratulations Wayne, we are pleased to be contributing to such an active and well deserving local charity!

We would also like to say a huge thank you to local shops who were happy to donate prizes, Cranbornes, an independent retailer selling a large selection of gifts, cards, jewellery and fashion accessories situated on the High Street. Box of All Sorts, a fantastic goldmine of Toys, Stationery, Traditional Sweets, Home & Hardware, Cookware, DIY, Gardening and Arts & Crafts supply. Prime Cuts, Traditional & Catering Butchers are a butcher based in Dorset.  Shaftesbury Wines, an independent treasure-trove of real wines from small producers and other special spirits, including a fantastic Gin selection.

Thank you to all who took part, it was wonderful to see such vivid and joyful displays. We would also like to take this opportunity to encourage you all, where possible, to keep Shaftesbury vibrant by shopping local and supporting our independent retailers.
