Shaftesbury, a FAIRTRADE Town

Shaftesbury Fairtrade Group

Shaftesbury was very proud to be the first town in North Dorset to achieve Fairtrade Town status in April 2008. Supported by the Town Council, Shaftesbury’s Fairtrade Group is working hard to raise the profile of Fairtrade in the town.

Open Doors to Fairtrade – Close the Door on Exploitation

Do you know that Fairtrade Gold is now available, in addition to the more widely known tea, coffee, cocoa, sugar, bananas, rice and other cereals, dried fruits, cotton, ornaments etc.? If you search on the internet for Fairtrade Gold Outlets, you will find a number of websites leading you to sellers of gold from Fairtrade gold wedding rings to Fairtrade gold bullion for investment.

A miner has said “This is where I mine gold. No Fairtrade. No hard hat. No ropes. I never know if I’ll get out alive.”

Florentina Beitia, a banana producer from Panama, has said “There were times when my children didn’t have enough to eat. Thanks to Fairtrade there’s a better future for my grandchildren.”

Shaftesbury Fairtrade Group is holding an event where you can come to see the difference Fairtrade has made to producers’ lives in their own words, and enjoy a cuppa and cake.
