Shaftesbury Town Council elects its youngest Mayor.

At the Town Council’s Annual Meeting on 1st May 2018, the Council unanimously voted in Councillor Piers Brown as Chairman of the Council and Town Mayor. At just 23, Piers Brown has already been working on behalf of the town as a Town Councillor for 2 ½ years. Piers was first elected to the Town Council in November 2015 and has chaired the Planning and Highways Committee and been Deputy Mayor / Vice Chairman of the Council. Piers is also a District Councillor for the Hill Forts ward and is a member of the Cabinet Committee.

Piers said “It is a real honour to have been voted as the Mayor of Shaftesbury for this Council’s final municipal year before the election. My personal goal is to make the Mayoralty more modern and approachable as we complete the job of turning Shaftesbury Town Council around and continue to deliver our innovative, exciting and collaborative 5 year plan for the people of town.”

The Town Council also unanimously voted Councillor Lester Taylor as Vice Chairman of the Council and Deputy Mayor. Lester has been a town councillor since May 2015 and has been chairman of various committees and was Deputy Mayor in 2017.

Lester says “I am honoured to be elected to the position of Vice Chairman and Deputy Mayor. I am looking forward to the year ahead working for the greater good of the town and supporting Piers as Mayor”.
