VISITOR EXPERIENCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE WORKING TOGETHER WITH SHAFTESBURY TOWN COUNCIL GROUNDS TEAM TO PREPARE FOR THE VISITOR SEASON

Ground staff at Shaftesbury Town Council team recently joined up with selected members of the VEAC (Visitor Experience Advisory Committee) to promote the much needed town centre sign cleaning activity as proposed by the Committee last month. Following a recommendation from the Council ROSE Committee (Recreation and Open Spaces) the Grounds team were given a tour of the signs that needed attention and off to work they went! The before and after effect is simply dramatic and this activity has definitely added value.
This activity is part of a wider plan to improve the Visitor experience and the cleaning activity was a short-term solution and the Grounds team cannot remember a time when the signs had ever been cleaned before. The next step for managing the signage is to build on our plan in terms of establishing the ownership of each sign, state of repair including replacement and relocation recommendations as well as a proposal to remove many signs that are no longer relevant.
Over the summer period the Visitor Experience Advisory Committee team plus Volunteers from our tourist-based organisations will be conducting Visitor surveys, the results of which will provide evidence to support the required future actions. The power of working together is proving very beneficial with this group and means they will all be united in their viewpoint when it comes to making recommendations to Council about the navigational signage across the town in the months to come.
