Wild About Shaftesbury

A competition to create diverse community driven projects that will enhance Shaftesbury as a beautiful and interesting place to live and breathe.

Entries are invited from the SP7 area and will be shortlisted by a panel of experts, the winning projects will be selected by the community and awarded grant funding of up to £1,000 each.  Winners will use their grant funding to professionalise their projects for submission to the Town Council by 1st September 2019.

Shaftesbury is a very special area with much of the town a conservation area and with Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The passion behind the public’s will for the Council to buy The Wilderness when it came up for auction demonstrated a public desire to protect and enhance the natural aspects of the town.

There are three competition categories; Under 11 years, Under 18 Years and Under 110 years. Successful applications need to include the

following:

  • A clear and inspiring explanation of the idea
  • The team behind the application and the roles they will play
  • How the plan will be delivered over a 12 month period
  • An explanation of the help that the idea will need to make it a success to come to life
  • The benefits for the community
  • The lasting legacy (at least 10 years)

The competition winners will receive Town Council funding to professionalise the project and develop plans to give them the best chance to come to life.

“Our town and the surrounding countryside deserves our investment – time, energy and action. This competition has been designed to support individuals and groups who want to make a real and lasting difference to the place we live and enjoy”
