Mr Steve Clinch 1954 – 2019

It is with great sadness that the Town Council learns of the death this week of Mr Steve Clinch at his home aged 65.

Elected as a town councillor on 5th May 2011, Steve worked passionately for his home town. In December 2014 he took up the position of Chairman of the Planning and Highways Committee to a packed meeting in the Guildhall, his very first item of business was to chair the difficult debate relating to a planning application from Persimmon Homes in relation to a children’s play area.

During his time as a councillor he proposed that a stone plinth be placed at Barton Hill in recognition of the long relationship that the town had with Coles funfair. He remained a firm supporter of the fair and the Carnival.

Steve was unsuccessful at the next general election in 2015 however, he continued to attend almost every single council meeting, offering his views and advice on a broad range of council discussions and most particular lending his advice to the Planning and Highways Committee.
