Council Responsibilities
The Town Council is offering an expanding range of services to Shaftesbury. The other authority to provide services to the town is Dorset Council. Although each Council is an independent body providing separate services we work together to ensure that all the services provide what the people of Shaftesbury need.
Shaftesbury Town Council
The main services provided by the Town Council are as follows:
- Allotments
- Bus Shelters
- Car Parks at Coppice Street and Barton Hill only
- Cemeteries
- Civil Ceremonies and Weddings
- Civic events promoted by the Town Mayor
- Crime Prevention Initiatives
- Hall Hire (of the Town Hall and STC-owned land)
- Litter and Grit Bins, Public (some)
- Markets
- Grants to Voluntary Organisations
- Parks, open spaces and play areas
- Planning matters (acting as a consultee on planning applications to the planning authority)
- Public Conveniences—in the Bell Street car park, open from 6am to 5pm (SP7 8AP)
- Recreation and Recreational Facilities
- The Town Hall
- War memorials
