Pool Duty Supervisor

Join our team as Pool Duty Supervisor at our open-air Shaftesbury Lido, a treasured local facility offering cold-water swimming in the winter and a busy summer schedule.

This is a zero hours contract. Expected hours during the winter season are Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings including term time – up to 6 hours per week. More hours are available as we move to the Summer season.

Your Role

  • Support the Pool Manager in day-to-day Lido operations, ensuring safety, customer satisfaction, and smooth running.
  • Oversee and support the lifeguard team during shifts.
  • Manage bookings, payments, and visitor communications.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding standards.
  • Perform pool plant and lifeguarding duties as needed.
  • Open and close the facility, including daily cashing up.

What You’ll Bring

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • General swimming ability (RLSS NPLQ qualification).
  • A flexible, team-focused attitude.
  • Experience in pool operations or team management.
  • Lifeguarding, first aid, or pool plant qualifications.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

Hourly rate

Hourly rate is dependent on age

  • 21 and over £13.50 per hour
  • 18 to 20 £12 per hour

About Shaftesbury Lido

Shaftesbury Town Council took over the management of the pool in 2016 and has invested in refurbishment works over the past few years to ensure the viability of this much-treasured community asset. It is the only open-air swimming pool in Dorset and is open for everyone to enjoy. Today, the pool provides residents with a great place to learn to swim, as well as a range of activities, including Parent & Toddler, Aqua Fit, and Naked Swimming in the Summer and Cold Water Swimming in the Winter.

Pool lifeguard

We are looking for lifeguards to join our team at Shaftesbury Lido, Dorset’s only lido. Following the renovations, we will be opening for our shoulder and main seasons from May and we are now recruiting for our team of lifeguards.

Term time and summer holidays available

Your role

  • Ensure the safety of all swimmers and visitors by monitoring pool activities.
  • Welcome guests to the pool and provide reception duties.
  • Help prevent accidents by enforcing pool rules and regulations.
  • Carry out daily checks to keep the pool area and facilities clean and hygienic, tidy and safe.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies, providing first aid and rescue assistance.
  • Share safety guidelines and procedures with our guests.
  • Maintain accurate records of any incidents, accidents, and rescues.
  • Participate in regular training sessions to keep your lifeguarding skills top-notch.

The Essentials

  • A National Pool Lifeguard  Qualification (NPLQ) from a recognised organisation.
  • Strong communication skills to interact positively with guests of all ages.
  • Ability to stay calm and make quick decisions in emergencies.
  • Must be physically fit, capable of swimming distances, and performing rescues.
