Lido Shoulder Season 2024
Shoulder season at the Lido refers to the transitional period between the main seasons – summer and cold water.
Between Cold Water and Summer (Spring Shoulder Season), the pool’s temperature is gradually increased to get to a temperature of 29 degrees. The temperature has to be raised slowly – just one degree at a time – to protect the pool’s infrastructure. As our pool is open-air, warming the pool is influenced by weather conditions, which in the case of the UK, can be quite variable and may slow the process. While the water may still be a little chilly, for those who enjoy cold water swimming, it is steadily warming up in anticipation of the summer season.
Between Summer and Cold Water (Autumn Shoulder Season), the heating is switched off and the water slowly cools down. The pool is ready for Cold Water swimming when the water is below 15 degrees.
You can follow the Shaftesbury Lido page on Facebook and Instagram for temperature updates and the latest news.
Lane swimming will be available during shoulder season but the pool attendants will keep it flexible to meet the needs of the swimmers in the pool where possible.
Autumn Shoulder season 2024
This autumn we are operating an enhanced shoulder season for the beginning of September. The last day with the heating on will be Saturday 14th September 2024.
