Councillor Elaine Barratt

Born in the Midlands and brought up in Somerset, I moved with my new husband to this delightful town in 1972. We produced three daughters and enjoyed the full social life that such a community offers.  Sadly, he died suddenly in 1988 when the girls were still young and I brought them up alone. I am now the proud grandmother of ten, four of whom live locally.

I have worked in a High Street bank, in local schools as a teaching assistant (one-to-one with intellectually-challenged children), and latterly at Salisbury District Hospital as a Health Care Support Worker in the Oncology/Haematology Day Unit.

I have been involved in the running of various local organisations and currently am Chair of Trustees of the Shaftesbury & District Historical Society which owns and operates Gold Hill Museum, and Honorary Treasurer of the Shaftesbury Community Association which manages Lindlar Hall. I also compile and present the weekly history show on our community radio station, Alfred.
