Councillor Jeanne Loader
I have been privileged to serve the people of this wonderful town as a Town Councillor for seven years and hope I still have something to contribute. Stopping here for lunch 16 years ago, I felt this was somewhere I would love to live, and moved here soon afterwards; it’s proved to be the right move. I’m very sociable and have gained many friends of all ages in Shaftesbury.
For several years, I’ve been a member of Shaftesbury Fair Trade Group and am a Committee member and Trustee of Town Twinning. I’m a member of the Arts Centre and a supporter of Westminster Memorial Hospital, being actively involved in the very successful ‘Save our Beds’ campaign. I also attend ‘Open House’ regularly as there’s always someone who needs a friendly chat, and I’m a good listener. Having been a single parent to three boys, I can empathise with some of their problems.
I attend St James’s church, where I enjoy being the verger for weddings and funerals, also narrating bible story plays for Abbey School. Away from Shaftesbury, I am Secretary of Tavistock School Reunion Association, for which I produce an annual magazine. My working life was mostly as a secretary/P.A. in Surrey. I’m a proud granny to two granddaughters in Worthing, who I try to see as much as possible.
I attend as many events in the town as a Town Councillor as I’m able, always supporting the VE Day, ANZAC and Remembrance Day commemorations. I would like to see a solution to the traffic problems in Shaftesbury, particularly in the High Street. I have a passion for retaining as much green space as possible and in this age of global warming, feel it’s absolutely essential to achieve a more sustainable Shaftesbury. With more young families moving into the town, I feel we must work towards improving our play parks.
