Councillor Nigel Heritage

Born and raised in another part of Dorset, I have lived in Shaftesbury for 15 years. Now retired, my main work was in various roles in education as a teacher, manager and most recently as a safeguarding trainer.

Helping others in our community is something I believe we can all do. As a regular swimmer, I have been a member of the Friends of Shaftesbury Swimming (FOSS) and its steering group, the Swim Advisory Committee which provides input to the Town Council on improving our Lido—Dorset’s only Lido—in Barton Hill.

Other volunteer activities include being a reader and editor for the Shaftesbury Talking Newspaper and, for the last couple of years being the town’s main collection point for plastic bottle tops to raise funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. I was also a driver for Car Link for 3 years.

As a new Town Councillor, I am particularly interested in seeing the Lido continue to improve, in encouraging more young people to get involved in their local community and town council (looking ahead to the future is so important) and in assisting our local council to run properly and efficiently.
