Commemorating 80 Years of VE Day

Join Us for a Community Celebration

This year marks a significant milestone in our shared history: the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Victory in Europe, bringing an end to World War II on the continent. To honour the incredible courage, resilience, and sacrifice of the men and women who served during those difficult years, we invite you to join us in Shaftesbury on Thursday 8th May 2025 for a day of remembrance, music, and community spirit.

A day of reflection and celebration

Our commemorative events will begin at 9am at Shaftesbury Town Hall, where we will raise the flag and read the official VE Day 80 Proclamation, marking the start of this momentous day. This solemn tribute is a chance to pause and reflect on the lives lost and the freedoms gained.

As evening falls, we come together again at the beautiful Castle Hill from 6pm to 10:45pm for a concert filled with live music from local and guest performers. Food and drink will be available to buy and you can bring your picnic blankets and chairs to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. At 9.30pm, there will be the lighting of the Beacon, a powerful act of remembrance and unity.

Here is the full line-up for the Concert at Castle Hill.
