Community Grants approved for 2026/27

At its June Full Council meeting, Shaftesbury Town Council approved a number of community grants and a Service Level Agreement to support local organisations during 2026/27.

Community grants help local groups and projects that contribute to the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of people who live and work in the Shaftesbury area. Since 2024, these grants have been funded through surplus income generated by the Coppice Street car park, helping to reinvest money back into the local community.

The following grants were approved:

• Shaftesbury Community Choir – £3,275 free room hire (in kind)

• Shaftesbury Cricket Club – £500

• Lindlar Community Association – £283

• North Dorset Rugby Football Club – £500

• Shaftesbury Town Silver Band – £750

• Shaftesbury Town Twinning – £500

• Shaftesbury Youth Club – £382

• Open House – £1,000

Councillors also approved a Service Level Agreement of £5,000 for Citizens Advice Bureau for 2026/27.

The grants budget was overspent by £416, with the shortfall to be met from the Council’s general reserves. These awards will help local organisations continue providing activities, services and opportunities that benefit residents across the town.
