Councillor Andy Hollingshead Elected as Mayor of Shaftesbury

New Mayor elected at Annual Council Meeting

Councillor Andy Hollingshead has been elected as the new Mayor of Shaftesbury following the Annual Council Meeting held on Tuesday 19th May.

Fellow councillors elected Cllr Hollingshead to serve as Mayor for the forthcoming municipal year. This marks his third time in the role, having previously served during the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 Mayoral years. At the same meeting, Councillor Virginia Edwyn-Jones was elected as Deputy Mayor and Vice Chair.

Role of the Mayor of Shaftesbury

The Mayor plays an important role in supporting the work of the Town Council and representing the community throughout the year.

As well as chairing council meetings, the Mayor attends a wide range of civic, social, charitable, and community events across Shaftesbury and beyond. The role helps promote local events, recognise community achievements, and strengthen links between the council and residents. The Deputy Mayor supports the Mayor in these duties and may represent the council at events when required.

Supporting the community

The appointments were voted at the council’s Annual Council Meeting, where councillors also reviewed and confirmed Standing Orders and policies for the year ahead.

The new Mayor expressed his thanks on behalf of the council and the town for the work that Cllr Edwyn-Jones has done for the welfare of Shaftesbury during her term as Mayor.

Cllr Hollingshead and Cllr Edwyn-Jones signed the Declaration of Office at the meeting and will represent Shaftesbury at events and engagements throughout the coming year. Please join us in congratulating Cllr Hollingshead and Cllr Edwyn-Jones on their appointments.
