Dorset Council Awards Funding for New Mampitts Community HUB

Dorset council announces decision

During their Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday 15th October, Dorset Council resolved to award Section 106 (S106) funding to Shaftesbury Town Council (STC) for the development of the Mampitts Community HUB. This new facility for Shaftesbury is expected to open in Spring 2026. The project will be funded through S106 developer contributions, with further support provided by STC.

The vision for Mampitts

The Mampitts Community HUB will feature a café, public toilets, a meeting point and information centre, volunteer space, and flexible office space.

The vision for the HUB was shaped by community input from public consultation events held in 2021 and 2023. It will create a welcoming and vibrant space that fosters social cohesion. The HUB will serve as a focal point for the community, offering a family and youth friendly environment in a green setting. Facilities will support clubs, social events, and active, healthy lifestyles. The HUB will also provide essential amenities, including shelter, public toilets and facilities for park users. Accessibility is a priority, with provisions for cyclists, pedestrians, adequate parking, and disability access.

“The Mampitts Community HUB represents a significant step forward for our community,” said Mayor, Alexander Chase, “It will serve as a place where residents of all ages can come together, enjoy our beautiful surroundings, and participate in activities that support well-being and connection.”

What happens now?

Since its inception in 2019, the project has navigated several challenges, with progress achieved following the granting of Planning Permission by Dorset Council on 2nd October. With the funding now secured, the project can advance to the next stages of detailed design and tendering.
