Information session sparks new energy for the Youth Council
This month, Cllr Lorah Wild and Town Clerk Brie Logan visited Shaftesbury School to host an information session for the Youth Council. There was an incredible turnout with 45 students interested in membership.
After learning about how the Youth Council works, the students jumped straight into an interactive activity, reviewing the upcoming Strategic Plan and ranking their priorities in order of importance.
The new Deputy Head, who will be the Youth Council’s lead teacher this year, was delighted with the students’ response. The motivation, energy, and enthusiasm in the room were amazing!
Young residents can make a difference
The Youth Council gives young people a voice in the town’s future. Its aim is to encourage participation in local democracy, allowing students to share their ideas and priorities with the Town Council. It’s a fantastic way for the council to consult with the younger generation on decisions that affect the community, building strong relationships and networks in the process. Most importantly, it reminds our young residents that their input is valued and that they can make a difference.
