Shaftesbury Hosts the Inspiring ‘Journey to Net Zero’ Photography Exhibition

Shaftesbury Town Council is delighted to announce that our town will play host to the much-celebrated ‘Journey to Net Zero’ photography exhibition, brought to us by Dorset Council’s Low Carbon Dorset programme. This powerful exhibition highlights the innovative efforts of local businesses, communities, and public sector organisations in the drive towards a sustainable, net-zero future.

An Exhibition to Inspire Change

This touring collection of photographs tells the stories of those leading the charge against climate change across Dorset. Through the lens of acclaimed Dorset-based photographer Nick Bowring, viewers will be introduced to the faces and initiatives behind these transformative efforts. Bowring’s unwavering optimism, and the belief that there’s a good portrait inside of everyone, has seen his work appear in publications like Forbes, Endurance Sports and Fitness, CBC News, City AM, Positive News and Manor Magazine.

The exhibition showcases innovative projects that have reduced carbon emissions, shares stories of resilience and creativity in tackling climate challenges, and highlights the impact of Dorset Council’s Low Carbon Dorset programme, which has supported local organisations in preparing for a greener future.

The exhibition will be open in 8 Bell Street (the former Tourist Information building) from 20th January to 1st February, with the following schedule:

  • Monday to Saturday
  • Morning sessions: 10am to 12pm
  • Afternoon sessions: 1pm to 3pm

Admission is free, making this an accessible opportunity for all residents and visitors to engage with the stories of those championing sustainability in our region.

The exhibition will be staffed by dedicated volunteers from Sustainable Shaftesbury and Planet Shaftesbury during opening hours, ensuring a warm welcome and insightful guidance for all visitors.

Setting the Scene for a Net-Zero Future

In 2019, the UK became the first major economy in the world to legislate its commitment to ending contributions to global warming. An ambitious target of achieving net zero by 2050 was set. Since then, the Low Carbon Dorset programme has been instrumental in supporting local efforts towards this goal. The touring photography exhibition is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and Dorset Council and organised by the Low Carbon Dorset team.

Shaftesbury Town Council is proud to have secured this inspirational exhibition, which has been touring key towns in Dorset. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the incredible work being done in our county and to find inspiration for how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future.
