Lido being cleaned in preparation for swimming season

As part of a schedule of works to improve the user experience of Shaftesbury Lido, the pool water is currently undergoing cleaning via a special process called electrochlorination.

This a new system that replaces the current regime of using chlorine and involves producing hypochlorite by passing an electric current through salt water. This disinfects the water and makes it safe for human use. The process is not only considered eco-friendly, but it is more cost effective, safer to use and non-irritating to skin. It also has a longer lifespan as cleaning doesn’t need to be repeated as often compared to conventional methods.

Shaftesbury Town Council has sourced £24,600 of external funding and committed £50K to fund the works to prepare for the summer season. They are also hoping to paint lines on the bottom of the pool to clearly mark out swimming lanes.

Thanks to Prodose for their hard work in getting the pool set up and ready to go. We look forward to opening the doors to the public soon.
