On Sunday 15th September, the Mayor Cllr Alexander Chase joined the Royal Air Forces Association for their annual service and wreath-laying ceremony.
The service was held at the war memorial on Park Walk to commemorate the Battle of Britain in September 1940. Cllrs Lester Dibben and Jeanne Loader also attended the service.
Reverend Chris Wray, a former helicopter pilot in the Army Air Corps, led the service. A member of the Shaftesbury Town Silver Band played The Last Post and Reveille. The ceremony included a minute’s silence and the laying of a wreath to honour those from all Commonwealth nations who died during the Battle of Britain.
The Royal Air Forces flag was proudly flown from the Town Hall between Friday 30th August and Monday 16th September.
