Mayor’s Charity Quiz Night to raise funds for Shaftesbury Youth Club
Residents and visitors are invited to take part in the Mayor’s Charity Quiz Night on Saturday 28th March, raising funds for Shaftesbury Youth Club.
The event will take place at the historic Town Hall and will bring the community together for an evening of friendly competition, food and fundraising in support of young people in the town.
The evening will be hosted by Quiz Master Simon Hoare MP, with teams invited to test their knowledge while supporting an important local cause.
Talking about the evening the Mayor said, “I’m thrilled our local MP, Simon Hoare, has agreed to be our Quiz Master. I absolutely love a quiz myself and when last year’s Mayor did one I thought what a good idea it was. I’m putting together the questions and there will be various categories, including a Shaftesbury section, but not too nerdy! There’ll be a prize for the winning team and the runners up, a raffle and some great auction pieces too. I’m really grateful to The Grosvenor who have done a great deal on their pizzas so that as much money as possible can go to the Youth Club. And I think it will be good fun to bring our own drinks and picnic glasses, another of my favourite things!”
The Mayor said the Youth Club plays an important role in providing activities and opportunities for young people in Shaftesbury.
“The Youth Club is a vital facility for our youngsters in town, particularly as we are acutely aware at how few facilities we have for Shaftesbury’s children.”
Run by volunteers, the Youth Club offers regular activities for young people aged 10 to 16 and provides a welcoming place where they can spend time with friends, learn new skills and seek advice when needed. The Mayor also highlighted the wider work supported by the Youth Club’s volunteers.
“The Youth Club is run by volunteers and offers a great range of activities for 10 – 16 year olds on Monday and Friday evenings, as well as being somewhere kids can hang out, seek advice and learn new skills. On the second Saturday of each month, there’s also Little Giants which offers activities for young people with a range of special needs.”
Funds raised from the Quiz Night will help support activities and experiences for young people throughout the year.
“There is also a day out each summer where the kids get to visit an amusement attraction that they might not be able to go to with their own families – it’s always a big ask, financially, for the Youth Club to fund this each year so I really want to make sure it can go ahead this Summer.”
The Mayor also noted that the Youth Club hopes to continue improving its facilities.
“The Club is also keen to renovate an area into a Juice Bar with new, size appropriate chairs where the kids can meet up and hang out, a really great addition, as well as always wanting to improve and update the arts and crafts on offer.”
