Press Release – Mampitts Square – we need you! – Developing community facilities in East Shaftesbury

Shaftesbury Town Council (STC) wants to work closely with the Shaftesbury Community to develop Community facilities at Mampitts Square on the East side of town. It is important to understand the current and future needs of the residents and look for ways to provide a realistic and sustainable community facility and/or facilities for the community to enjoy for years to come.

Dorset Council has recently adopted a protocol for Planning Obligations for Funding Community Schemes. The Mampitts Square land is due to be transferred from the Persimmon developers and a decision by Dorset Council is awaited. In anticipation of the land transfer STC is facilitating an information session on Tuesday 29th June at 6PM at the Town Hall. To register for this event please use the following link to secure your place; https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/we-need-you-mampitts-square-shaping-community-facilities-tickets-159809329005

This information session will provide background to the project and the process involved for residents to register their interest in becoming a member of the Advisory Committee of STC. The committee will be formed of local people; those passionate about Shaftesbury who will support STC with the development of a community-led project that meets the aspirations of the East of Shaftesbury residents. The Advisory Committee roles and responsibilities will be explained in detail at the Information session.

Due to the social distancing restrictions the event is limited to 30 people. A second event will be scheduled in the event of more people wanting to know more about the Advisory Committee.

Cllr Piers Brown, the lead member for the Mampitts Square Community facilities project said – “This is a great opportunity for anyone with passion for the future of the town, to find out how we can work together on this exciting project. I am looking forward to putting the community in the driving seat and working with them, to create a facility, designed by the community and for the community”.
