Recruitment underway for new Town Clerk in Shaftesbury

Shaftesbury Town Council has formally launched the recruitment process for a new Town Clerk, following the resolution made at the Full Council meeting in March 2025 to appoint a specialist recruitment company to oversee the appointment. This step comes in preparation for the departure of the current Town Clerk, Brie Logan, who will leave the post in May. The vacancy will be advertised nationally, including through the National Association of Local Councils (NALC).

The incoming Town Clerk will be responsible for leading an office team, which includes a full-time Assistant Clerk, and part-time staff across finance, communications, projects, and administration. The Council also employs a part-time Lido Manager and a caretaking facilities team. Grounds maintenance, including Shaftesbury’s open spaces, cemetery and allotments, is delivered through a contract with a local landscape management company.

The role of Town Clerk in Shaftesbury goes far beyond administrative oversight. The Town Clerk will work closely with councillors, local organisations and residents to help shape the town’s future. The Town Council takes a collaborative approach, working with community groups and supporting a wide range of community-led initiatives.

The new Town Clerk will play a central role in delivering the council’s projects and ensuring the Council remains responsive, innovative, and engaged with the community. The role requires a person who is both strategic and hands-on, capable of working constructively with a wide range of stakeholders, and who shares the Council’s commitment to improving the quality of life in Shaftesbury.
