Shoulder season at Shaftesbury Lido

It’s heating up at the Lido. Which can only mean shoulder season!

What does shoulder season actually mean?

Shoulder season at the Lido refers to the transitional period between the off-season, characterised by cold water swimming, and the peak summer season. During this time, the pool’s temperature is gradually increased to get to a temperature of 29 degrees. The temperature has to be raised slowly – just one degree at a time – to protect the pool’s infrastructure. As our pool is open-air, warming the pool is influenced by weather conditions, which in the case of the UK, can be quite variable and may slow the process.

You can keep an eye on the Shaftesbury Lido page on Facebook and Instagram for temperature updates and the latest news.

While the water may still be a little chilly, for those who enjoy cold water swimming, it is steadily warming up in anticipation of the summer season. Lane swimming will be available during shoulder season but the pool attendants will keep it flexible to meet the needs of the swimmers in the pool where possible. The full transition to the Summer timetable is marked by our Summer launch on the 25th of May.

The shoulder season timetable is now live.

You can find out more and book your space on our Shaftesbury Lido page. Walk-ins are welcome subject to space.
