Work at St James’ Park is almost complete, but despite the recent wet weather being great for the newly laid grass seed, it has meant delays for the laying of the final section of the new accessible pathway and the top surface of the ball court area.
The site has been a hive of activity over the past few months with play equipment arriving, new benches being installed and Hawthorn and native Cherry trees being planted this week.
Commenting on the park, local resident, Mr Brown said: “Firstly, the Council deserves great credit for making this happen. Money is always tight, but the vision was a good one and the communication with the design ‘open days’ was excellent. Secondly, the contractors have been excellent. This is a messy business, but they have kept the mess and disruption to a minimum, and have been polite every time I have spoken with them.
“Finally, the whole area seems more like a park now, compared to the previous ‘jungle wasteland’ look. Well done to all concerned. I am sure that the final result will be worth all the effort.”
As the park has been handed back over to the Town Council, we are now just hoping for sunny weather to help the grass grow before we can open to the public. If all goes to plan, we hope to have an official opening on the weekend of the King’s Coronation.
