St James Park Play Area Improvement Works

19th January 2023

It was a pleasure to meet with Aileen Shackell Landscape Design and idverde UK yesterday for the site inspection of St James play park. Great to see the plans coming to life. Despite the awful weather conditions the contractors are making great progress!

3rd January 2023

Works to the park have started. The Poplar trees are being pollarded and the ground works have also begun.

Overview

The project involves demolition and clearance of existing and installation of new play equipment in different locations within the park, importing and grading of soil to modify existing ground levels in localised areas plus construction of new paths, construction of goal area/ rebound walls and resurfacing of an existing ball play area.

The works are due to start week commencing 3rd January 2023. Work will only be carried out Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm and are scheduled to last for ten weeks. Parking near the site entrance will be restricted during the works to allow contractors clear access to the site at all times.

We are working towards a completion date of Easter, as the grass seed needs time to establish and grow before play can commence.

The Poplar Trees

Three of the trees will have their crowns reduced to a final height of approximately 16m and the sides by 6‐8m to create a natural shape and allow for more light. The smallest Poplar tree will be removed.
